This was my baby's first walking shoes and she loved it. It's almost like socks, but the soles are leather so gives more protection and traction. She wears it mostly inside the house or out on our lawn. For rocky areas, you'll need a thicker/firmer sole than what these offer - otherwise, really perfect and too cute to step on mud puddle (my baby loves puddles!). It got holes at the bottom after 3 months, which is just the right time since her feet grew and need to buy new shoes anyways.
