Review 1 for Marvel by Stride Rite X-celeRacers™ Captain America (Kid)
Son and I loved the style, however, the shoe is just made too narrow although the size(in length) is just right. I've bought other stride-rite shoes tho this is our first X-celeRacer, and we always got good fit. There is also a very tight elastic band near the shoe entrance that makes it hard to put the shoes on. I had TO CUT the band so my son can put it on. It does stay on even w the band cut due to external straps, and my son thinks it is still comfortable to wear. I am disappointed tho and would not buy this kind again for a wide-footed child. My other son has medium-width foot and has no problem with the same shoe.

My 7 yr old loves them! We got a pair last summer in July for the school year and bought a size 2. They lasted him all year!! Now we just bought a size up. I think they run a little big compared to Nike. They are very durable and are not heavy.

I saw the bad review on here in regards to fit so in order to make sure the fit was right before buying, I drove 25 miles to the nearest store that had them. Ended up buying my son's regular size and width, 12.5 M. The deal with these shoes is that the heel enclosure comes all the way around to the front of the shoe and are elasticized together, to help hold the foot in; otherwise the simple one strip of velcro would not be adequate to hold the foot in. This means my son has to undo the velcro each time he puts them on (instead of just shoving his foot down in there) but that's fine. They stay on, and the velcro tab closure works great. He runs, jumps, etc just fine in these and says they are comfortable (and he would complain if they weren't). Oh, and they look AWESOME as far as boys shoes go.

My 5 year old picked these out as part of the BOGO offer and he loves to interchange with the Iron Man shoes he also got. Not understanding the reviewer that said if your child has an average size foot this wouldn't work because my child has no problems getting his foot in and out. He used to have a very wide foot as a Toddler and I would always have to order the W size, but his foot now measures as a Medium and so I get the M size. There is plenty of room to get your foot in so perhaps the reviewer wasn't pulling the tongue of the shoe far back enough...but no problems here...we love this shoe!!!

What age(s) are your children? 5
These shoes are insanely narrow!! There is a piece of wide, thick elastic under the tongue that makes it IMPOSSIBLE to get a foot inside! What is the point of this??!! I even ordered wide although my son's foot is only slightly over the average on width when I've had him measured in-store at Stride Rite. So, if a child actually has a wide foot don't even think you'll be able to get a toe inside! These shoes are cute and my son is extremely disappointed that we have to return them. If your child has a narrow foot, these might work but I would not recommend purchasing for a child with even an average width foot. Another annoying factor, is that now I have to pay return shipping on what I consider to be an incorrectly sized shoe. :(
